A former "Busby Babe" today refused to be drawn on a report that a golf club row led to him having a heart attack.
A Sunday newspaper claimed former Manchester United goalkeeper Ray Wood, 70, was bullied and victimised for refusing to wear the brightly-coloured captain's blazer favoured by Highwoods Golf Club in Bexhill.
Mr Wood, who survived the notorious 1958 Munich air disaster, became club captain last year.
Members were reported to have turned against him when he refused to wear the club's gold and navy-striped blazer, claiming it made him look like an "overgrown wasp".
He was quoted as saying the affair had brought on his recent heart attack.
Today, neither Mr Wood nor his wife would comment at their Bexhill home.
A club spokesman said: "Ray Wood had a heart attack four weeks ago, which he is making a very good recovery from.
"As far as we are concerned we are looking forward to having him back, hopefully within the next three or four weeks."
The 44th anniversary of the Munich crash, which killed 23 people, including eight of Matt Busby's team, is on Wednesday.
