A rain-swollen West Sussex river which is being kept under 24-hour watch after its banks burst in several places.
More rain is forecast for West Sussex over the next two days.
But Environment Agency experts say they believe a major flooding crisis between Pulborough and Arundel now looks less likely.
Today the state of the River Arun was downgraded from Flood Warning to Flood Watch.
The river has caused problems in the Pulborough and Houghton areas and at one stage water came close to reaching several homes.
An agency spokesman said: "The threat has greatly receded and we are hopeful that there will not be a major flooding event.
"However, more showers are forecast later today and on Friday and Saturday."
