Alan Kings (Letters, February 4) proposed a superstore at Falmer instead of a football stadium and said "as many or more people as the Albion would get over a year" would use the store.
I thought this was the main objection to the Albion's planned move - that congestion on match days would cause chaos with traffic on the A27, at the most twice a week. If you are going to have more visitors with a superstore, surely the road would become gridlocked?
There are many superstores in the area but not one purpose-built sports stadium for all. I don't like horse racing but others do, so there is no way I would campaign against the racecourse.
No one is asking Mr Kings to love football but he should respect the thousands that do.
He says leave the downs alone. So one building alongside the university will make all the difference?
From the plans I have seen, the stadium is far more beautiful than the surrounding buildings and if he thinks Falmer is not the right place, please put into print an alternative site - bearing in mind it must not be more than seven miles from the Pavilion and the supporting infrastructure should not be too costly.
