For years I have always kept a copy of The Argus letters page whenever one of my letters appeared and I now have three large boxes full.
It is fascinating to look back to see what issues people were feeling so strongly about that made them put pen to paper.
It was while searching through wallpaper pattern books without success a few years ago for a suitable paper for my smallest room that I decided to look back at the old letters to give myself a break.
Suddenly, seeing the papers spread out all over the table, the answer to my decorating problem came to me in a flash - newsprint.
My loo is small and I was able to cover all the walls with two editions of my favourite newspaper.
I never again needed to take the paper with me for a quiet read - all the news is there, albeit not the very latest.
