Beach hut rent in Brighton and Hove is likely to soar by more than 50 per cent this summer.
The city council will suggest to a meeting on Thursday that the licence for a beach hut on Hove prom should rise from £89.36 to £140. VAT would then have to be added.
Culture director Sarah Tanburn said: "It is felt the licence for a hut on Hove promenade is currently undervalued.
"The new charge compares very favourably with other resorts."
Most other seaside charges are going up by about 2.5 per cent but the cost of an adult single ride on Volk's Railway will rise by 7.7 per cent from £1.30 to £1.40.
Charges for the hire of sports pitches are also likely to rise in the spring.
