Everyone says there should be more bobbies on the beat to make Sussex safer.
But there's a cost to providing all these extra officers which has to be borne by those being protected by them.
The Government is footing part of the bill but local taxpayers have to pay the rest.
It will come hard for those who are already waiting to pay a lot more in the spring through council tax increases.
But a decision by Sussex Police to increase the precept for the force means 50 extra officers and a range of improved services will be provided.
Some councillors argued against the rise, saying there has to be a radical new way of running the force.
More bobbies on the beat costs more money but most people will be happy to pay for the security they provide.
