Two East Sussex boys narrowly escaped injury after aerosol cans they threw on a sitting-room fire exploded.
Firefighters were called to a house in Emmanuel Road, Hastings, after neighbours heard an explosion last night.
The pressure of the blast blew out the double-glazed lounge windows.
Leading firefighter Mark Hobbs said: "The boys were very lucky. One of them dived over a fish tank and the other dived out the door.
"There was a flash of fire from the cans but no fire damage. Boys being boys, they had decided to put the cans on the open fire in their sitting room.
"Their mum was not very happy with them."
The boys, aged about eight and 16, were checked over by an ambulance crew but did not need hospital treatment.
A fire brigade spokesman warned children to be aware of the dangers of playing with aerosol cans near fire.
