Cranes have moved in to start a £1 million development of a run-down seafront tourist attraction in Eastbourne.
Workmen yesterday began the first phase of transforming the Treasure Island Adventure Park on Royal Parade.
London-based investors Coasta is injecting the money to revive the fading attraction, run by Eastbourne Borough Council.
Much of what is planned will be installed by the summer season, including an enclosed play area and two nine-hole golf courses.
Further developments will be made during the winters in time for the next three summer seasons.
These include an indoor entertainment complex with restaurant, an indoor playroom and outdoor sand and water area.
Council bosses hailed the investment as further proof of Eastbourne's healthy tourist industry.
Graham Marsden, Eastbourne Borough Council leader, said: "This will give added value for residents, visitors and the resort as a whole."
Stanley Ayers, Coasta senior partner, said: "We looked at other resorts on the South Coast and this is one of the best."
