On Sunday afternoon, my car was towed from a taxi rank on Marine Parade, Brighton, at a quarter to five.
It had been intermittently parked there since Friday evening because there were no legal spaces to be found on the seafront between Chichester Terrace and the Palace Pier, still less on any of the local side-streets.
I have read the relevant regulation - Statutory Order 2001 No 2272 Road Traffic, The Road Traffic (Permitted Parking Area and Special Parking Area) (City of Brighton and Hove) Order 2001 - which can be found on the internet.
I could not find one word in it that specified the legality or otherwise of parking in a taxi rank.
I find it unreasonable my car was removed from a rank which appears not to have been in use by any Brighton or Hove taxi driver in the past four years, since I moved into Marine Parade.
The parking situation on Marine Parade is extremely unfriendly to tourists and residents alike, particularly in a city where insufficient parking spaces are provided to accommodate the full demand at peak times. Brighton and Hove City Council claimed when it instituted the new regulations on July 16 it would deal with this area but no action appears to have been taken, either to protect the rights of residents or to accommodate revenue-earning tourists.
I am sure I am not the only resident who is angry at the way we are treated by the people we elect and pay to run our city, whether the issue is parking, rubbish collection, the management of our schools or any other facility.
