Skipper Will Champness is hoping to be fit for Lewes as they prepare for a relegation clash with Firebrands on Sunday.

The Bristol based club are just two points ahead of Lewes who slipped into the relegation zone after losing 3-2 last Sunday away to Barford Tigers, who had been bottom at the start of play.

Chelmsford are now bottom but Lewes know they must start winning again if the are to move clear of both the solitary relegation zone and the play-off place.

Defender Champness, who is joint top scorer this season, suffered a head injury in last week's defeat but he is hoping to be fit to take his place in the Lewes backline.

The main problem for Lewes is at the other end of the field.

Manager Peter Boyse said: "What I am looking for is some confidence in front of goal. If we start to take our chances I would hope for a victory."

Despite their current position, Boyse is confident Lewes can move clear of trouble. He said: "We are playing well enough."

Jo Hill is missing for Lewes through injury.

The unfortunate Joe Evans will have to wait for his East Grinstead first team debut.

Evans was set to be introduced as a substitute against Blueharts last Sunday after winning a first team call-up.

With Grinstead leading 4-0 with ten minutes to go, Evans was told to warm up but the visitors had pulled two goals back by the time the Sackville School youngster was ready to go on.

Grinstead, who eventually won 4-3, have another youngster, Jamie Pearce, available for Sunday's trip to Peterborough Town, so Evans drops out of the squad.

Brighton are back to full strength for their match at home to Mid Sussex in the Kent/Sussex Regional League. Don Turnbull, Richard Baker and Simon Acott all return to a Brighton squad which travelled to Gillingham Anchorians with just 11 players last Saturday.

Brighton won the match 4-1 and skipper Carlo Missirian said: "The pleasing thing is that we won with three players missing."

Zimbabwean international Elvis Brown scored his first goal for Brighton in that match, much to the delight of his skipper.

Another player to hit the net last weekend was Worthing striker Andy Allan who ended a run of 18 games without a goal by netting in the Sussex Cup success against South Saxons. Now Allan is aiming for his first league goal of the season when Worthing visit leaders Holcombe tomorrow.

Crawley welcome back Chris Butterfield for their match at home to Blackheath but Ryan O'Neil and Paul Ottleib are missing.

Horsham are set to be without Richard Charlesworth as they visit Old Williamsonians. Charlesworth has been an ever-present this season but he pulled a thigh muscle in last Sunday's Sussex Cup win over Crowborough and looks like he will miss out tomorrow.

Dominic Cohen goes on holiday this weekend but may be able to play.
