Green councillors Keith Taylor and Pete West bang on about a business case relating to the proposed stadium at Falmer.
Both must know, in law, a business case is not required in support of planning applications. Both know a business case has been produced and that Brighton and Hove City Council officers consider it viable. Both should know the information contained within that will be commercially sensitive.
Coun West, for example, would not tell the man selling him a new bicycle the maximum he is willing to pay for it. Why, then, does he expect the Albion to reveal publicly what they expect to receive in terms of naming rights?
Are our councillors really so ignorant of these details? More likely, are they trying to throw enough mud to see what sticks?
I clearly remember being at the Brighton Centre to see the third St Peters Green councillor, Rik Child, tell a packed hall on his election night in 1999 that he "had plans for the station site that did not include a stadium".
The lack of a clear and sensible alternative being put forward by any of the antis leads me to conclude there is no alternative to Village Way.
I would have hoped the campaigns for and against the stadium would have involved intelligent and considered debate. So far, the anti arguments have centred on rumour, hearsay and half-truth. The latest smokescreen from the Green Party is the icing on a very distasteful cake.
