Albion's Youth team manager Dean Wilkins will be among hundreds of runners competing in the Sussex Beacon Half Marathon in Brighton tomorrow.
Wilkins is part of a record-breaking field for the 13.1-mile event which aims to raise £20,000 for the country's only national centre for people with HIV and AIDS related illnesses in Bevendean Road.
Clare Connor, the England womens' cricket captain will start the race, and organisers have been flooded with entries.
The Sussex Beacon expect to comfortably eclipse last year's total of 1,496 runners, with 1,400 already registered and around 500 competitors expected to enter on the day.
Wilkins, who captained Albion to the play-off final in 1991 and made nearly 400 appearances for the Seagulls, now oversees the club's youth policy.
And he admitted he likes to set his young charges a good example when it comes to keeping fit.
