I am sorry Mr J Anthony, who was asked to leave my establishment on a Friday afternoon, was offended to the extent of thinking it was something to do with his lapel badges (Letters, February 14).
The true reason was that Mr Anthony walked into the pub dressed very scruffily in baggy tracksuit bottoms held up with a necktie, a baggy T-shirt and an oversized, stale-smelling suit jacket which had obviously not been cleaned for a some while. After complaints from other patrons, I had no choice but to ask my barman to politely ask this gentleman to finish his drink and leave the premises.
The Bulldog Tavern has been on St James's Street for more than 23 years and, the same as any licensee, we are here to protect our customers and ourselves.
