A new £180,000 footbridge was installed over the railway line at London Road station in Brighton.
The bridge, between Shaftesbury Place and Springfield Road, will provide pedestrians with direct access to both platforms.
There will also be ramps for disabled people using the eastbound platform from Springfield Road.
A crane lifted the bridge deck into place yesterday while the line was closed for repairs.
Work is expected to be completed by April. The original Victorian bridge had reached the end of its life.
