Brighton and Hove City Council has achieved a massive deficit which will doubtless be passed on to the electorate.
It has also raised in excess of £2,000,000 from the new parking enforcement scheme.
The council says this scheme is not commercially driven and its primary motivation is to eradicate dangerous parking and parking likely to impede the passage of emergency service vehicles.
Given this, why is the council spending our money on resurfacing a small area at the top of Queen Square (a cul-de-sac)?
If the parking scheme is not commercially driven, why, having resurfaced the area, is it going to redraw the double yellow lines to ensure no vehicles can park there?
At present, with the permission of the owners of the ice-rink, cars can park there. They make no charge for this. It is simply kindness and courtesy.
By removing this overlooked haven, the council can force these vehicles, plus those owned by the rink's owners, into an NCP or gain revenue by any parking penalty they may incur.
