Wealden District Council's chief executive has announced she is to quit after two years in the post.
Sheelagh Douglas tendered her resignation last night.
She will leave at the end of May for a job at the London Institute, which is renowned for art and design.
Mrs Douglas said: "While I'm delighted to be offered such an exciting and unique opportunity in higher education, that delight will be tinged with sadness at leaving Wealden.
"The Wealden of 2002 is very different in all sorts of ways from the Wealden I joined in 2000 and I believe it to be well-positioned for the future."
Mrs Douglas, an accountant by profession, was previously chief executive of Taunton Deane Borough Council in Somerset.
She was Wealden's first woman chief executive, having succeeded Derek Holness in 2000.
