On reading the article about the award for the binmen over the four-day sit-in (not three days) at Hollingdean depot last June (The Argus, February 20), I noticed street cleansing was not mentioned.
Yet it was not just the binmen who held the sit-in. The street cleaners were also involved.
The binmen do a great job in clearing away the rubbish and it's a hard task considering the amount of work they are expected to get through.
However, do not let us forget the people who push barrows around the city and its perimeter, in all sorts of weather, and the people who empty the street bins with all the things that public puts in and around them (if we had more public toilets, perhaps it would stop the bins being used as such).
Perhaps the people of Brighton and Hove could think a little bit more about the way they dispose of their rubbish and not just throw it anywhere but put it in the bins provided.
Moreover, if others did not go around kicking the refuse sacks around the streets at night, we could get on with keeping the city as tidy as I am sure we would all like.
