A pensioner says she is scared and devastated after thieves stole her handbag and personal belongings.
Barbara Pitkethly, 74, was shopping in Waitrose in Western Road, Brighton, when her black patent leather handbag was snatched from her trolley.
It contained sentimental items and £80 cash in her purse.
Mrs Pitkethly, from Woodingdean, is appealing to anyone who may know where the bag and belongings are to let her know.
The grandmother-of-four said: "The bag had sentimental things in it like photos of my children and grandchildren.
"There was also a key ring that has a little tiny imitation police whistle attached to it, which was given to me by my father when he died.
"I am a member of the Rottingdean Club and my membership card was in the bag together with the last membership card my husband had before he died.
"There was also a silver pen my son had given me.
"I do not normally carry that amount of money on me but I had been to the bank to draw money out as I pay for some accounts and bills with cash."
Other items in the bag included Mrs Pitkethly's asthma and angina sprays, strong prescribed painkillers, address book, cheque book, bus pass and pension, mobility and benefits books.
She said: "It is frightening because whoever took it knows all about me.
"My daughter had the locks changed immediately but during the night I am terrified in case someone comes and tries to get in."
The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon.
She said: "I am so hurt by this. It was despicable as whoever did it could see that I was defenceless. It has broken my trust in people."
Carolyn Bond, spokeswoman for Brighton police, said: "We urge all shoppers to keep their bags on them at all times.
"We are sorry that Mrs Pitkethly was a victim and would urge people to return the stolen items."
Anyone who has details about the bag should contact the police on 0845 6070999, anonymously on 0800 555111 or Kate Matthews at The Argus on 01273 544547.
