Street crime has fallen by almost ten per cent in some parts of Mid Sussex, according to the latest police figures.
It is the second consecutive fall in two years.
Street crime fell by 4.4 per cent, from 1,015 to 970 incidents, in Crawley compared with the previous year. The number of reported crimes fell 9.2 per cent, from 471 to 443, in the Horsham district.
Chief Inspector Ian Davies said: "These figures are important because they are about the overall safety of our community.
"They show this area has become a safer place to live. Our performance is improving, and county-wide figures show Sussex Police is an improving force."
The level of high-profile crimes like street muggings and mobile phone robberies has remained low.
Town centre violence in Crawley has almost halved over the past year, thanks to the high profile Operation Marble, where increased numbers of officers have been patrolling the streets on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
In total, officers have solved more than 4,300 crimes during the past year.
