A rooftop siege by teenagers had no connection with a nearby pub, police confirmed today.
The Argus reported yesterday how Broadwater Street West, Worthing, was cordoned off for two hours as armed police surrounded a building on Tuesday at 9.35pm after a group of youths were spotted brandishing a ballbearing gun on the roof of a house.
No shots were fired but the gun was seized by police who gave the youths a stern warning. No arrests were made.
Police made clear today the incident had no connection to the Broadwater pub in the same street.
The report in The Argus quoted a shopkeeper in the street who said he heard shouting which he believed came outside the pub.
But police have ruled out any connection between the incident and The Broadwater.
Richard Dix, licensee of the pub in Broadwater Street West, said: "The incident was nowhere near our pub. I want to correct the impression in The Argus that it was.
"I have spent five years improving this pub and the safety of my customers is my priority."
