Television presenter Christopher Price, who died earlier this week, was an old boy of Worth School in Sussex.
The frontman of Liquid News on BBC Choice was found dead at his home on Monday aged 34.
Police say there are no suspicious circumstances.
Price became the face of the flagship nightly entertainment news show in May 2000.
He laid the foundations of his career while at Worth School at Turners Hill, near Crawley.
He is remembered there as an outgoing, sharp-witted sportsman.
Judith Wilson, marketing manager at Worth, said Mr Price was a leading light in the school's debating society.
She said: "He was also a very good rugby player and was in the first team."
Mr Price was known as an entertaining live presenter who showed little deference to the celebrities who joined him in the studio.
He had no more respect for his own profile, saying: "I am a fat, bald, homosexual - not ideal television material at all."
However, after an early dalliance with retail, he carved out a successful radio and television career. After getting eight O-levels at Worth he went to study Italian at Reading.
He joined BBC Radio 5 Live in 1994 and moved into TV in 1997 when he joined BBC News 24.
Mr Price lost touch with his friends from Worth after leaving school.
