Since Brighton's West Pier closed, I have supported and donated to the West Pier Trust. We have been promised the pier will eventually be restored to its former glory, to which I have been looking forward.

Now, at last, it looks as though it might happen but after seeing the picture of what it could look like (The Argus, April 19), I don't know if I am interested any more.

Why can't Brighton get anything right? I understood the pier would be identical to how it used to look. That's what former glory means, doesn't it?

As far as I could see, it won't look anything like it used to. If that's the case, leave it as it is. I would rather see the beautiful architecture as it is now, not as St Modwen plans.

It looks as though another of our landmarks will be ruined by modernising it out of all recognition. It seems any lovely building must come down.

Take a look at the monstrosity at the bottom of West Street and the iron mess in place of our Essoldo cinema.

Why not pull down the Pavilion next and build another complex of restaurants and cafes?
