A customer waved a knife and threatened to stab the manager of a convenience store in Portslade.
The offender was buying items at the B2 convenience store in Boundary Road at 2.15am on Wednesday.
When his credit card was rejected he became angry, threatened the manager, then fled.
He was in his 30s, slim, 5ft 7in and wore glasses and a green top.
