I have always been a great supporter of the Royal Mail for its rural deliveries but, last Friday, my faith was completely shattered.
When I arrived home from work, there was a first-class letter posted in Greenford, Middlesex (about 50 miles away), which had been posted on Monday to notify me of a dear friend's funeral at noon on Friday.
Is it any wonder many people want the Royal Mail monopoly broken to get a better, competitive service?
