I am writing on behalf of many officers of Sussex Police who would like to thank The Argus for its coverage of PD Bruce and the tragic end to what was a great police career.
I have worked with both PD Bruce and PC Pete Tattum on many occasions and feel let down by Sussex Police for the way they have handled this incident.
As we all know, no one is perfect in this job and, from time to time, we all make mistakes.
This will be a costly one for Sussex Police, as we have already seen from the many letters published about this incident.
The follow-up story (The Argus, April 23) brought a tear to my eye and, no doubt, to others.
Let's hope PC Tattum can put all this to the back of his mind to allow him to continue his excellent work with the Sussex Police dog team and his new-found friend and partner, PD Merckx.
I know PD Bruce will never be forgotten and will always remain an upstanding member of Sussex Police.
Good luck, Pete, we're all thinking of you and your family.
