A £67,000 maintenance scheme has started on one of the busiest bridges in West Sussex.
Broadwater Bridge at Worthing carries the A24 over the South Coast railway line.
Work to renew and replace pedestrian guard rails and joints began yesterday. The project is expected to take six weeks.
The maintenance has been described as essential by West Sussex County Council, which has launched a programme to check and repair all bridges in the county.
Tex Pemberton, Cabinet member responsible for roads, said the work would be carried out as quickly as possible although there would be lane closures.
