Residents in Crawley go to the polls today with seats in ten wards up for grabs.
They are Bewbush, Broadfield, Furnace Green, Ifield, Langley Green, Northgate, Pound Hill North, Southgate, Tilgate and West Green.
There is also a byelection.
In total there are 32 seats on the council. Currently 24 are Labour, five are Tory, two Lib Dems and one vacant.
Nine councillors are bidding for re-election, eight Labour and one Lib Dem.
A project in four of the wards means voters have been taking part in a national postal voting pilot. They are Bewbush, Broadfield, Ifield and Southgate.
Early signs show the numbers of voters are up compared to previous years.
A spokeswoman for Crawley Borough Council said: "We know the result from the postal votes are significantly higher than previous years.
"This is good news for us. We do not know precise figures yet."
Other Sussex councils taking part in local elections today are Hastings, Eastbourne, Crawley and Adur.
