A £16 million scheme to redevelop Horsham town centre was due to be signed today.
Work is due to start on Tuesday and will be the biggest redevelopment in the town centre since the Carfax was redesigned ten years ago.
The contract was due to be signed by Horsham District Council and J Sainsbury Development.
The redevelopment of Blackhorse Way is expected to be completed by October next year.
It will include a public piazza, acting as a focal point for a new bus station, 65 one and two-bedroom apartments, a cafe, a new Allders department store and a multi-storey car park.
There will also be a play area, a water fountain, a sundial sculpture, walkways and cycle routes.
