Gluck's first opera for Paris in 1774 is a tale about the prelude to the Trojan Wars.
Agamemnon has, for reasons of state, to fight the Trojans but he has upset the goddess Diana who has sent a great wind to keep the Greek fleet in harbour.
His only solution is to sacrifice his daughter Iphigenie.
Director Christof Loy works it all out in a splendid new production with Sussex baritone Gerald Finley as King Agamemnon and the stunning Veronica Cangemi as his daughter.
