Sussex teenager Tim Ambrose today admitted he suffered a case of the Nervous Nineties on his way to punishing the champions at Headingley.
Ambrose was finally out this morning for 149 as he put his side firmly on top in the second day of their County Championship tussle with Yorkshire.
The 19-year-old said: "I was really pleased with the way things went.
"I got a bit nervous in the 90s. I remember Mike Yardy getting out at the Oval this season when he was close to his hundred so I spared a thought for him."
Ambrose added just three more runs before he was out for 149 this morning.
Steve Kirby got some extra bounce off the pitch and Ambrose was caught at slip as he pushed forward. He had faced 281 balls and hit 19 of them for four. Ambrose's seventh wicket stand with Kevin Innes had been worth 76, Innes taking two boundaries off Kirby in the first over of the day.
Innes had reached 34 when he became the first of two victims in successive overs for Ryan Sidebottom, falling lbw only half forward to a good-length delivery.
Sidebottom cleaned out James Kirtley's middle stump with Sussex still two runs short of claiming maximum batting points for only the second time this season.
Billy Taylor averted that minor crisis by on-driving Steve Kirby to take Sussex past 400 in the 115th over.
Taylor was growing in confidence, although one attempted pull off Kirby ended up falling short of third man.
The innings finally ended 35 minutes before lunch when Davis was caught behind off Craig White, the last wicket pair having added 37.
