This week, don't miss the classic bop sounds of Matt Wates, saxophinst Terry Ede and the Harlequin's Terry Seabrook trio.
Friday night at Brighton Jazz Club at the Sussex Arts Club, Matt Wates will whisk you back with the classic bop sounds of his sextet, a line-up of rare quality which took the Best Group gong in 2001's Jazz Awards.
Especially notable are slick arrangements for the three-horn front line.
Matt honed his arranging skills with Itchy Fingers and Sax Appeal. The rhythm section features Steve Brown on drums and Malcolm Creese on bass. Alongside the leader's alto sax is new Canadian talent Steve Kaldestad on tenor and ex-NYJO Henry Collins on trumpet.
In more mainstream mode on Monday, there is the polished sax and clarinet of Terry Ede guesting at The Hen And Chicken in Horsham.
A trio of fine saxophonists appear on successive nights with Lawrence Jones also on flute at Worthing's Hare And Hounds on Tuesday. Wednesday brings the Harlequin's Terry Seabrook trio residency featuring Spike Well and Paul Whitten, with tenor sax Simon Savage guesting.
At The Prince Albert, Trafalgar Street, Brighton, on Thursday, there's a local reunion for saxman Julian Nicholas, performing with pianist Mark Edwards plus Nigel Thomas, bass and Ron Parry, drums.
