They may have drawn the short straw against Brazil - but here is one place where David Beckham will always be top of the table.

George Jordan was inspired to create a Chippendale-style desk by Beckham's famous free kick goal against Greece last October.

After six months of work, the desk is ready to take pride of place in his office.

The last-minute free kick sealed England's place in the World Cup.

Mr Jordan, owner of Seaford Antiques in Crouch Lane, Seaford, hopes the tribute will prove a lucky omen for England's quarter-final match against competition favourite Brazil on Friday.

He said: "The minute the goal went in I said to my wife 'He's just made history.' I picked up a piece of A4 and scribbled out a design.

"The way he curved the ball into the top corner made me think of having a curving desk."

The desk, made out of burr oak with rosewood, features the England and Manchester United crests.

Beckham's name is carved into different parts, along with lasered pictures of him taking the free kick and images of wife Victoria and son Brooklyn.

Also engraved on the desk is Posh Spice's nickname for husband Beckham - Goldenballs.

United fan Mr Jordan said: "The desk wasn't built to be sold. It will go down in history for my grandchildren to enjoy. It's an antique for tomorrow."

After Mr Jordan designed the desk, the main work crafting it was done by Frank Williams.

Mr Jordan also owns Renova Replicas, which specialises in building bespoke furniture.

He said: "I'm very proud to be English and we produce English furniture.

"I decided to use rosewood crossbanding around the edges because Victoria is an English rose."

His assistant Steve Squibbs, also a keen United supporter, said: "It's a fabulous piece of furniture. Everyone who comes in can't take their eyes off it.

"We're about to put it in the boss's office, though it weighs a ton. It's perfect timing for the Brazil match."

He estimated the desk could be worth about £250,000.

Mr Jordan has emailed pictures of the desk to agents representing both Mr and Mrs Beckham.

He said: "Beckham's people said he was very busy at the moment.

"I can understand that."
