A quality restaurant looks unlikely to replace a former video shop amid concern it would disturb neighbours.
Councillors will today rule on plans to transform the former Play It Again Sam video shop in Susan's Road, Eastbourne.
They will consider the application to turn the end-of-terrace building into a 29-seat, good quality restaurant.
It would open from 12 noon to 2pm and 5.30pm to 11pm Monday to Friday. On Saturdays and Sundays it would open from 12 noon to 11pm.
However, council officers at Eastbourne Borough Council believe the proposal would lead to noise and disturbance for residents.
Neighbours themselves have voiced concern. Some worry the back alley of Susan's and Langney Road would be used as a toilet area.
Others say the location, close to the town centre, is already saturated with restaurants and there is no need for another one.
The plans are being considered at the town hall in Grove Road, Eastbourne.
