There have been letters from time to time blaming the granting of city status to Brighton and Hove for the lack of affordable housing and asking what's in it for us?
The demand for housing is going on all over the South. The fact that many choose Brighton and Hove has little to do with city status. They like the place.
As for "what has it done for us?" - it's an honour. If someone is awarded an OBE or a knighthood they don't say "what's it worth?". Any place with a population of a quarter of a million should be a City by any standard.
