As a group of concerned Brightonians who regularly donate to the charity Headway (helping those who have suffered head injuries), we feel compelled to write in after reading the report concerning Jean Wills-Taylor, her brace of startlingly idiotic offspring and their friends (The Argus, June 20).

Why should their stupidity lead to the loss of important local park railings? This surely is modern non-parenting taken to its most extreme.

If Ms Wills-Taylor had even an iota of sense she would teach her children that putting one's head into railings is unsafe and dangerous as well as very stupid. Let's not let our valuable and historic local parks become vandalised for the sake of a few clueless individuals and their parental shortcomings.

If Ms Wills-Taylor really is a mature student, surely she has enough wit to teach her children to avoid danger rather than leaving others to take responsibility for their foolish behaviour. What's next? A barrier round the sea? Crash-mats on the pavement?
