Sussex MPs Charles Hendry and Nigel Waterson today applauded England's football fans for reclaiming the St George flag from thugs and extremists.
In a Commons Early Day Motion, they also praised the national team for battling through to the World Cup quarter finals.
The motion, signed by 42 Conservative MPs, said the behaviour of England supporters had been "exemplary" and a "credit to this country."
Wealden MP Mr Hendry and Eastbourne MP Mr Waterson said: "We pay tribute to the people of England of every race, creed and class who united together with warmth and good humour in a common cause.
"We also congratulate all those who purchased 30 million Cross of St George flags, ensuring the flag was reclaimed from thugs and extremists.
"It can now be flown by decent and tolerant English people everywhere."
England, beaten 2-1 in the quarter finals by Brazil, earlier sparked jubilation in pubs and living rooms across Sussex by beating favourites Argentina and thrashing Denmark 3-0.
