Over 1,000 children took part in the annual Brighton Primary Schools Championships at Withdean Stadium.
Twenty three schools entered pupils who competed in a running, jumping and throwing events.
The championships, organised by Dorothy Stringer High School, the city's recently designated sports college, were a huge success with pupils, teachers and spectators.
The first three competitors in each event received a gold, silver or bronze medal.
St Luke's Junior, Bevendean Primary, Rudyard Kipling Primary, Woodingdean and St Martin's Primary all emerged with honours.
St Luke's Junior won the throwing trophy and finished second overall in their division.
Andy Starkie, PE co-ordinator at the school on St. Luke's Terrace, said: "We took over 50 children and it was a thrill for them to compete in a real stadium.
"I was a expecting a mid- table finish. The day was excellent and the weather was lovely. It all went well which is down to the organisation of Andy Marchant at the Dorothy Stringer."
Rudyard Kipling, Woodingdean, achieved their best-ever finish by coming first in the jumping, second overall in the relays and the throwing. They were runners-up in their division.
Head Barbara Shackell said: "It was a particularly successful day. We had 64 children taking part and they all loved it.
"The children were brilliantly behaved and enjoyed representing the school. The stadium gave the event a sense of importance."
Bevendean Primary won the running cup in their division and picked up several medals.
Jo Vaughan said: "It was very noisy because you get a large number of children who sit in the stands and cheer on their school team-mates."
