England are out of the World Cup and I feel gutted, trying to find answers as to why we failed, yet again, at the last hurdle.
As it says in a classic line from the Three Lions football song, "Never quite believing".
England have never truly believed we could do it. We reserved our ambition and belief. We got what we expected. Our wildest hope was to reach the quarter-finals and that is what we achieved.
It would have been a different story if we went to the tournament shouting from the rooftops we were going there to win the Cup.
David Beckham believed, of that I have no doubt, but he was scared to shout it out. He toned down his belief to avoid ridicule from the Press and nation. Total belief in yourself and your team's performance is essential to winning tournaments of the World Cup's calibre.
The British public have enjoyed a roller-coaster ride of unprecedented joy and fulfilment, highs and lows. There is no reason for the ride to end. We can carry on enjoying it until the very end.
Tim Henman, it's your turn next. Go to Wimbledon with our full support and belief. Believe in yourself and we can all celebrate your championship win instead.
