I read the letter from the woman who was given so much grief for breastfeeding her baby on a bus and was absolutely flabbergasted by what she described. I thought attitudes like that had disappeared a long time ago.
As the father of a similarly aged child, I actively encourage my partner to breastfeed for as long as my daughter feels she needs to.
Like the lady in the letter, we have looked into this in a lot of detail and it is clear to me the benefits of doing so whenever it is practical - even on a bus - far outweigh any other consideration. I certainly would not be dissuaded from doing so by attitudes like those described, and the people whose primitive points of view caused this woman and her baby so much distress should feel nothing but shame for what they did.
I would say to any other woman who finds herself in a similar situation, do not let yourself be bullied into doing anything other than what is right for your baby.
