How sadly predictable that my point of view (Letters, June 15) should cause me to fall foul of the new religion, political correctness and one of its zealots, P D Jackson (Letters, June 22).

Like his Victorian predecessors who saw sin in every sexual thought or deed, so he and his kind would seem to see racial bigotry where there is none or none intended.

I made no mention of race or colour in my letter. I just started the facts, however unpalatable they maybe to P D Jackson. I told the truth.

Poor, working-class people are suffering because of the influx of cheap labour caused by immigration. This has nothing to do with race or colour. It would not matter if they were angels dropping from heaven.

The fact is, the larger the pool of cheap labour, the less the individual worker - whatever his colour or race - will earn. By ignoring this glaringly obvious truth, P D Jackson shows no sympathy for either the local population or the unfortunate immigrant workers in their exploitation.

P D Jackson and his kind would sooner bury truth beneath accusations of racism than offer a constructive suggestion. In their Orwellian minds, truth equates with ignorance. Nowhere in his letter does he deny the truth of what I said. He just berates me for saying it.

By denying or ignoring the truth, people such as he and the mainstream political parties are disenfranchising and leaving without a political voice a large section of the working class of this country.

P D Jackson might not like it but the fact is a large section of the population are concerned about immigration and its consequences and resent being called ignorant and racist because their views do not coincide with his holier-than-thou attitude.
