Councillors look set to refuse the demolition of two houses to make way for a block of flats.

Planning officers fear ten two-bedroom flatsin Chesswood Road, Worthing, would be detrimental to the appearance of the area.

One letter of objection sent to the borough council said: "It is a pleasant residential area which should not be spoilt for commercial benefit.

"The proposal will cause overlooking and a loss of privacy."

Railtrack, Southern Water, a crime prevention adviser and the head of environmental services raised no objection.

A decision will be made on Tuesday.
