Roadside restaurant chain Little Chef and the budget hotel operation Travelodge were put up for sale today.
Catering giant Compass wants to offload the two operations to concentrate on its contract food service and vending businesses.
Compass, based in Chertsey, Surrey, inherited Travelodge and Little Chef following the company's demerger from Granada last year.
The pair generated turnover in the region of £300 million and operating profits of around £100 million last year.
Travelodge is the country's second largest budget hotel company with around 12,000 rooms in 220 roadside and urban locations. Little Chef has 397 outlets and serves more than 30 million people every year.
Chief executive Michael Bailey said: "Travelodge is a strong brand in the highly attractive market for budget accommodation and Little Chef has an unparalleled network of sites across the UK."
