I was disappointed to read James Poulter's anti-German sentiments in his "World Cup letters" column (The Argus Weekend, June 22).
Of course, he is not alone in this - I heard several similar comments on the radio.
I visited my German-born mother in Brighton and she was genuinely upset. She has been in the UK since 1948 and has been a good citizen, paying taxes and so on. She is also recently bereaved, losing her husband last year. Why should she have to put up with this tedious prejudice?
In the absence of any football-related reasons for James's comments, they come across as simply racist. I wonder also how the many German visitors to the city felt, spending good money and lifting the local economy?
