A driver suffered a broken collar bone, nose and a fractured hand after his car was involved in a collision with a lorry.
The man was trapped in his Volkswagen Golf convertible for 35 minutes while firefighters used cutting equipment to rescue him.
The lorry driver suffered shock but was unhurt in the incident yesterday at 7.45am on the A268 at Northiam, near Rye.
Police said the vehicles collided as they approached a bend, south of Quickbourne Lane.
The driver of the Golf was treated on the scene by paramedics and a doctor from the Surrey and Sussex Immediate Medical Care Scheme (Simcas).
A police helicopter was also called but was held back by bad weather.
The A268 was closed for an hour while emergency services cleared the road.
