As a woman who often walks home on my own at night from the theatre or music concerts, I must say how much safer I feel having a police office positioned constantly at the Clock Tower in Brighton.
I have lived in Brighton for nine years and when I first moved here from the West Country I felt fine walking home alone.
Now I feel threatened every time I walk home and am constantly being harassed by aggressive beggars and groups of drunken men.
In the summer months I enjoy an evening stroll and cannot really afford to be constantly taking taxis.
I feel angry that these sad individuals are restricting my freedom and was delighted when Sussex police introduced these static officers.
Now, as I walk up North Street or down Dyke Road, I feel much calmer in the knowledge a police officer is only a shout away.
