MWH Wilson (Letters, June 27) would do well to read Credit To The Nation, the latest report from the Refugee Council.
It shows that immigration, far from harming host countries, actually benefits them by filling gaps caused through shortages of indigenous labour as well as creating new jobs.
I cannot understand Mr Wilson's claim that I am some sort of religious zealot of political correctness.
The term political correctness has become so overworked and ill-used it has lost any real meaning.
It now serves mostly as a blanket term of abuse intended to stifle any serious debate and let bigots of all kind off the hook.
I would also hardly describe myself as religious.
Mr Wilson's claim that a so-called concern about immigration is not racist is, to say the least, disingenuous.
The very concept of immigration control is, in itself, inherently racist.
The day some right-wing populist raises "concerns" about immigration and denigrates his opponents with cheap jibes without having a racist agenda will be the day porcine aviation becomes possible.
The interests of the working class are international and conflict between workers of one country and another can only benefit the employing class that exploits us all.
That is not so-called political correctness, it is sound politics.
