It is pretty rich of J Freeman of Saltdean (Letters, July 4) to say the main argument of those in favour of the Falmer stadium is that the protesters are Nimbys and then to repeat the ancient claim that other sites are available.

There are many different arguments in favour of the stadium and most have been aired in the columns of The Argus. On the other hand, if you really want to hear a needle stuck in the groove, listen to the claims about alternative sites.

The protesters keep saying they exist but evidence seems hard to come by.

For example, an activist at the June 12 planning meeting announced there were dozens of other sites and then, to support his case, revealed some models produced by students. The pick of these showed a stadium in the middle of a densely wooded area of houses, flattening a nature reserve.

If this isn't Nimbyism, I'm not sure what is.

However, the argument against protesters from Falmer isn't that they are Nimbys. The argument is that they do not seem to have too many other arguments. Mr Freeman accuses those in favour of the stadium of insult-hurling and then, two paragraphs on, describes supporters as being galactically stupid. The double standards live on and if it takes a planning inspector to see through them, so be it.
