A major project to redevelop a water garden damaged by the great storm of 1987 is almost complete.
Work has finished in the iris dell and the ditch beds at Wakehurst Place, Ardingly, and workers are clearing the bog garden.
Spokesman Trevor Butler said: "Although clearance of moribund plants from the beds surrounding the water commenced in 1999, attempts to drain the water were frustrated by seepage from the bank.
"Casting of a concrete base to the open water area is the largest element of the project but will reduce future maintenance."
