A public figure is stepping out of the limelight after more than 40 years.
Deputy mayor of Hastings Terry Soan will retire from the borough council to spend more time with his family.
He joined the Hastings Corporation in 1961 and spent 35 years on the council, representing the Hollington ward and serving on various committees.
He later became a courier for Onyx.
Mr Soan said: "I am looking forward to spending more time with my wife, gardening and fulfilling my role as deputy mayor."
