Had he not taken the time and trouble to come on the BBC SCR fans phone-in, North Stand Chat contributor 'FG' could well have been nothing more than a computer-generated creation.

'FG' (it apparently stands for Football Genius which is surely reason enough for Johnny Crumplin to seek legal advice) has never been backwards in coming forwards.

Spelling and grammar may not be his strong point, in true Gulls Eye tradition, but in the past on the internet and over the airwaves he has continually questioned both Micky Adams and Peter Taylor's abilities as Albion managers, famously branding Adams "lucky" after the Third Division championship win.

Even by his own standards his latest campaign surpasses anything that he has done before. He is currently trying to arrange a 'Dick Knight out' demonstration for the pre-season friendly against Worthing at Woodside Road next Tuesday.

Dick Knight is a victim of his own and the Albion's success. He has a lot more going on in his life than just the Albion, but in the eyes of a small number of supporters the club should be his sole priority.

While all the time he wants to be I would like to see him remain as the chairman. But perhaps now might be the time for the likes of Norman Cook, Bill Brown and Robbie Raggio to start playing a more active role within the club.

Having orchestrated a few Albion-related demonstrations down the years I can safely predict that the proposed protest will fall flat on its face at Woodside Road next week.

However there are enough fickle supporters within the Albion's fan base for such protests to develop if the club makes a poor start to the season.

The way things can pan out, ten dissenting voices at the end of September could be well be into three figures within a month. Bearing in mind what Knight, and Martin Perry for that matter, have done for the club, it's not really fair but try explaining the definition of fair to a disgruntled and possibly soaking wet and cold season ticket holder at the beginning of November?

On the subject of the management saga, it is obvious Dick is exploring every avenue possible but it is clearly not that easy.

The football management community is probably on a par with Emmerdale - Everybody knows everybody else and without doubt the first thing any credible candidate would have done is phoned either Micky Adams or Peter Taylor for some background information.

I still have a lot of respect for Taylor, unlike Argus reader Paul Stoner who told me he watched the recent England under-21 games on Channel 5 with the sound turned down because he didn't want to hear Taylor's voice.

It would have been just as easy for Taylor to have resigned this week, with a further two months' wages in the bank, citing the same reasons, but whatever people think of him they must surely respect him for the fact that he went when he did and with no other job in the pipeline.

Whoever is appointed, either internally or externally, the new manager along with the board must get the backing of all of the fans.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and debate is always healthy, but there are times when the Albion support has to, for the sake of the whole club, stick together.

I certainly know that FG exists. Whether or not he actually supports the Albion is another matter.
